In order to follow the Constitution to the letter can we accept selling off thirty seven States?

In order to follow the Constitution to the letter we need to peel back the country to the original thirteen states. Shrink the DOD to a loose collection of state based militias and 3 frigates. Eliminate public schools, abandon the infrastructure (replace deteriorating asphalt and concrete highways with wood plank), and with the windfall from putting the LA Purchase on Ebay there should be a surplus, right? Oh yeah no taxation because the Nation can sustain itself with Customs tariffs. That should work right? Strip American citizenship from all those who are beyond the original thirteen states. Maybe they would be Chinese since they’re most likely to buy all that property.

  1. So, what you’re saying is that you’ve never read the Constitution. The Constitution makes provisions for the addition of brand new states to the Union, a standing army (in addition to a militia), and income tax (16th Amendment). Public schools are a creation of state laws, not Federal. They do not depend upon the Constitution for their existence, and in fact, public schools in America pre-date the Constitution.

  2. that sounds good, but what would obama do next year after he spends all the money from selling the thirty seven states?

  3. I will try here, you will probably not comprehend but I will try:

    1) Constitution says nothing about only allowing thirteen states

    2) Constitution doesn’t say how the military would be formed or organized

    3) Constitution doesn’t provide for public schools, that is a State thing

    4) Constitution doesn’t provide for infrastructure, again a State thing

    5) Constitution didn’t say the LA purchase would not be allowed

    6) Constitution says nothing about the types of taxation

    the best thing about the Constitution is it leaves so much up to us and can be changed through amendments.

  4. The Constitution included the manner by which additional states could be organized and 2 methods of amending the Constitution…which is what was used to ratify the 16th Amendment and institute the income tax.

    Arguing about the Constitution with leftists is like shooting fish in a barrel.

  5. Perhaps a very little too far with your extrapolation of right-wing logic, but I am also perplexed by this nostalgia for the late 1700’s. Perhaps when teabaggers realize that Thomas Jefferson was actually an intelligent, well-educated aristocrat, they’ll learn to hate him just like they do all the other smart people out there. Apparently, the common-sense solutions they all advocate is code for any idea that a high school dropout can pull out of his ass.

  6. Big Brodie, your cynicism aside, you need to read the Constitution again. Several times.

    (By the way, if you want to balance the budget, just peel back spending to about 2006 levels. Businesses are forced to do this all over the nation. At that time, the CBO estimated we would have a surplus by 2012.)

  7. I take it you do not like living in a Republic. Too bad. And the feds can’t sell the states.

  8. Wow… ever hear of a constitutional amendment?
    Lets go over your details 1 by one.

    we need to peel back the country to the original thirteen states
    Article four Section three – New states may be admitted by the Congress into this union; but no brand new states shall be formed or erected within the jurisdiction of any other state; nor any state be formed by the junction of 2 or more states, or parts of states, without the consent of the legislatures of the states concerned as well as of the Congress.

    Shrink the DOD to a loose collection of state based militias and 3 frigates
    Article one Section eight Clause Twelve 13 – To raise and support armies, but no appropriation of money to that use shall be for a longer term than 2 years;
    To provide and maintain a navy;
    This doesn’t mention the size of the army

    Eliminate public schools, abandon the infrastructure
    Amendment ten – The powers not delegated to the U.S. by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
    Both of these are run by the states since neither is stated in the constitution.
    Article one Section eight Clause three – To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes
    The interstate highway system is classified as interstate (thus the name), therefore congress is allowed to give out funds for it.

    the windfall from putting the LA Purchase on Ebay there should be a surplus
    Article two Section two Clause two – He shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided 2 thirds of the Senators present concur
    LA purchase was a treaty made with France, therefore it was constitutional.

    Oh yeah no taxation because the Nation can sustain itself with Customs tariffs.
    Amendment sixteen – The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

    Strip American citizenship from all those who are beyond the original thirteen states.
    Amendment fourteen Section one Clause one – All persons born or naturalized in the U.S., and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the U.S. and of the state wherein they reside.
