An architect makes designs and plans, and a contractor follows them.
Well i think the contractor follows it detailed (of the plans) of the architect as they make the plans and stuff..
Landscape architects have five years of college, including engineering and design. They pass a rigorous week long exam to get a license and must complete an apprenticeship. They draw plans and occasionally install their own designs. Or can sell the blueprints to the buyer who then can shop them around for estimates from landscape contractors.
Landscape contractors can have a college education or not. They cannot sell designs, but can make sketches to show a customer what is being installed. They can usually read prints from an architect, but not necessarily. Very simply, contractors install, architects design.
the architect has the knowledge needed to make sweeping changes to install a design… he can take out a hill or build one, and still get it right as far as drainage, impact on the neighbors, etc….I’d want him if I was installing a large wall, patio, a pool on a hill, etc…..
contractors don’t have that kind of know-how….. and sometime create more problems than they can solve….. but they are fine to hire if there’s no major changes being made, just brand new plants going in …..
