Can I use wet flagstone to sharpen a old pocket knife?

I heard somewhere that you could do that

  1. in a pinch if thats all you have you can also use a piece of sidewalk but it’s better to use a wet stone

  2. Sure, but you can pick up a whet stone at any hardware store for a few bucks.

  3. Yes, you can. I believe flagstone to be the same as sandstone. I made two whet stones years and years ago out of sandstone by grinding them against smooth concrete and using water. I still have both of them and they sure can put 1 heck of an edge on a knife using a bit of honing oil. They are all I use.
